Book 8 - Book Store

The book store is indoors. The description of the book store is "This musty old claptrap is filled with tomes of little interest to anyone." Understand "tomes" as the display shelf.

The surly bookseller is a woman in the book store. "A surly bookseller lurks behind the counter."

Before going from the book store when the bookseller is in the book store:

if a for sale book is carried by the player:

say "[The bookseller] blocks your path. 'You're not going anywhere until you pay for that.'" instead.

Instead of asking or telling or talking to when the noun is the bookseller, say "'I'm not here for conversation,' she snarls. 'Buy somethin[apostrophe] will ya!'"

The display shelf is a supporter in the book store. "A prominent shelf is set up to display this week's best-selling books."

There is a book called How to Get Girls by Hypnosis. How to Get Girls by Hypnosis is a proper-named, for sale book on the shelf. The printed name of How to Get Girls by Hypnosis is "[italic type]How to Get Girls by Hypnosis[roman type]". The description of How to Get Girls by Hypnosis is "Judging by its cover, this book is a thought-provoking treatise on gender relations."

There is a book called Bicycle Built for Murder. Bicycle Built for Murder is a proper-named, for sale book on the shelf. The printed name of Bicycle Built for Murder is "[italic type]Bicycle Built for Murder[roman type]". The description of Bicycle Built for Murder is "Judging by its cover, this book looks pretty good!"

Understand "pay for [something]" as buying.

Instead of buying a book (called x):

if x is bought, say "You already own [x]!" instead;

if the bookseller is not in the location, say "There's no one here to buy it from." instead;

if the wealth of the cash is less than the MSRP of x, say "You can't afford [MSRP of x]. You only have [wealth of the cash]." instead;

if the player does not carry x:

silently try taking x;

if the player does not carry x, stop the action;

say "You pick up [x] and ";

else:

say "You ";

decrease wealth of the cash by MSRP of x;

say "give [the bookseller] [if dollars part of MSRP of x is greater than 0][dollars part of MSRP of x in words] dollars and [end if][cents part of MSRP of x in words] cents. 'Enjoy,' she says.";

now x is bought.
